This is a version 1.2 FAQ list for RP-1 Owners. Date: Tue Jan 30 13:44:00 MET 1996
This is a slightly updated version of the RP-1 FAQ. It needs some more updates, but I'm working on that in my scarce free time. The Email adresses for DigiTech personel are updated here. Hang on for the rest.
1) Why is the transformer of the RP-1 getting hot ?
2) What do I need to upload/download patches from/to the RP-1 ?
3) What is the MIDI System Exclusive data format for the RP-1 ?
4) What are those strange 'Secret Test Menu's in the RP-1 ?
5) Why is my RP-1 occasionally putting all LED's on ?
6) Where can I get patches and info about RP-1 effect pedals
7) Where can I reach someone at Digitech by email or by Phone
8) What is the RP-10 , the RP-5 or the GSP-21 (Legend) or the GSP-2101
This is probably due to the usage of a too light transformer
in the RP-1. Replacing it with a good quality Torus-ring transformer with some more power reserves will solve the heating problem a lot Workin on some H/W specs (MB)
Basically you could do it the way the manual says.
Just hook another RP-1's MIDI ports and use the MIDI patch data exchange feature or Bulk data dump for a whole copy.
There are several ways to do this. You could buy an expensive MIDI recorder, but it can be done with a computer with a MIDI interface too. There are several IBM MSDOS programs for Roland MPU-401 compatibles and there is also some stuff for the cheap SoundBlaster interface. There are also some H/W projects known for IBMPC's and Apple MAC's I have included this stuff in the Archive on ecnsun.ecn.nl/pub/RP-1/midistuff Anyone who got more info is welcome to upload stuff. Please no Virus junk :-0)
Ahhh! this is causing us (Jeff Brinskelle and me)
severe headaches and sleepless nights. We contacted the Dutch
import firm and DoD Digitech Utah, but they want to keep it secret and
are not willing to share this with us. Pity…. But don't be disappointed.
Soon we will hack (=reverse engineer the format coming out these beast
and publish it on the list and on the FTP archive and cock a snook at DoD
I'm not sure, but I think they are test generator stuff for repairmen. I could not do anything useful with it. Does anyone else do ?
Strange thing. After each few minutes all the led's goes on for a few miliseconds. Nothing happens with the sound . Could be some firmware bug in the RP-1, but basically I ignore it.
There is a Anonymous FTP site at ftp.ecn.nl [130.112.1.1]
on /pub/RP-1/
Anyone can upload patches in the writeonly upload directory
There is an ASCII patch format proposal in this directory called
patchfmt.txt. I hope everyone uses it for exchanging patches, but
it is just a proposal, because any improvals to the format are welcome.
I wanted to have some ASCII format for non computer RP-1 users, but
it will be used for a ASCIIMIDISySEXE converter in the future
Also we want to write a patch editor for MAC, IBM and Atari_ST, but
this is also just vapourware 1.0

Also suggestions for enhancements of this format are welcome.
Note: Nothing of this stuff has anything to do with the mission of ECN
nor do I have a commercial interest in DOD-Digitech

The RP-10 is a new effect rack on the floor with a swell pedal on the right side. It hase more effects and algorithms (32) than a RP-1. I only have heared about the RP-5, and I dont know about it's capabilities The GSP-21 and GSP-21 Legend are sort of rack mounted versions of the RP-1. The GSP-21 has some slight differencese internally though
The GSP-2101 is the top of the line guitar rack from digitech. They have a pair of 12AX7 tubes in the preamp section to get fat tube distortion sounds.
